Pax Amicus Castle Theatre

Pax Amicus Castle Theatre is a distinctive cultural anchor in Budd Lake with a history as colorful as its castle-inspired architecture. The theatre traces its origins back to 1970, when teachers and arts advocates founded a community art center in a renovated historic church, launching performances that blended popular music and social themes. By the late 1970s, the company purchased a former fraternal hall on the shore of Budd Lake and transformed it into what is now the Castle Theatre, a landmark celebrated for its imaginative design and community spirit.

Today, Pax Amicus continues as a nonprofit theatre that offers a full, year-round season of productions, ranging from Broadway and off-Broadway musicals to comedies, dramas, and classics by Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe. Its programming includes performances for children, professional repertory presentations, and special events that welcome guest artists, musicians, and performers of many styles. A dedicated program for young actors gives teens the chance to perform under professional direction, and school matinees regularly bring students from across the region to experience live theatre that resonates with history, imagination, and performance.

Surrounded by scenic Budd Lake and complemented by adjacent park space and memorial gardens, Pax Amicus offers both culture and community connection
