Dark Moon Preserve

Dark Moon Preserve offers a quiet, open landscape where nature and history come together. Accessible from a trailhead on Hibler Road in Green Township, the preserve welcomes hikers and equestrians, with parking available for horse trailers. Fields and forest create a varied setting, while limestone outcrops support rare plant species and Bear Brook, a pristine Category One stream, winds through the property.

The preserve is also home to the Dark Moon Site, an important archaeological area containing the remains of a small Minisink settlement dating back roughly 600 years to the Late Woodland Period. Together, the land’s natural features and deep history invite visitors to explore and experience a lesser-known side of the NJ Highlands.
