Pequest Wildlife Management Area spans more than 5,200 acres near the town of Oxford in Warren County, offering a wide-ranging landscape shaped by woodlands, fields, ridgelines, and the Pequest River. Managed to support wildlife habitat as well as public recreation, the area provides space for hiking, fishing, hunting, and nature observation across varied terrain. Marked and unmarked trails wind through forests, fields, and along the river, inviting hikers, seasonal cross-country skiers, and limited mountain biking during designated times of year.
At the heart of the property is the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center, where staff raise hundreds of thousands of rainbow trout each year for public waters across New Jersey. Visitors can explore the hatchery through a self-guided tour and learn more about fisheries, geology, and habitat conservation through exhibits and educational programs.
